// The problem
This printer sells wholesale to other sign shops, and every order started as an email. Someone looked up the price book, wrote a quote, waited for files, chased artwork that was too low-res or the wrong size, then billed after the job shipped. Quoting ate hours a day, billing after the fact meant chasing money, and the shop was ordering through a national trade printer's portal instead of selling its own presses under its own name.
// What I built
I built the shop its own ordering platform on its own domain. Approved trade accounts sign in, pick a substrate, size and finishing, and watch the price update as they go — worked out by a pricing engine that reads the shop's own price book: per-sheet, per-square-foot, per-linear-foot and per-piece pricing, quantity breaks, add-ons like a second side, grommets and contour cuts, and per-customer adjustments. Customers can gang several pieces onto one sheet and pay per sheet. Jobs that can't be priced automatically go to a quote queue instead of guessing. Artwork is checked as it uploads — resolution at the ordered size, color mode, dimensions — and the customer is warned, not blocked. Checkout is card on the shop's own Stripe account or net-30 for approved accounts, and the server recalculates every price so a total sent from the browser is never trusted. Each order lands in the back office with its print-ready files and a job ticket for the floor.
// The result
The shop now takes orders directly under its own brand, priced instantly and paid up front, instead of quoting by email and billing later. Products, prices and options are data the shop edits itself, so changing a price never needs a developer. It's live in production, built on Next.js, Supabase (Postgres, Auth and Storage) and Stripe, with more than 1,000 automated tests guarding the pricing engine and checkout.
